Allah (SWT) has promised to protect the Qur’an (Surah Al-Hijr 9), and the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) warned that the Ummah would divide into 73 sects, with only one—those who follow his and his Companions’ way (Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jama’ah)—remaining on the true path.
The Qur’an was revealed gradually over 23 years, addressing real-life events, and was fully embodied in the Prophet’s example. This gradual revelation was meant to be implemented in every aspect of daily life, making the Prophet’s teachings essential for a complete understanding of Islam. Therefore, preserving the original teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is vital, as his life as a guide is essential to understand fully the Qur’an.
After the Prophet’s death, his companions and their successors safeguarded and transmitted the teachings of Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jama’ah, established Islamic powers like the Umayyads, Abbasids, Saljuks and Ottomans. However, after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, without central authority against invading powers, distortions arose. In the last century, western powers have rewritten Islamic history, and young Muslims have been exposed to ideologies like Wahhabism and Shiism, straying from traditional Ahlus-Sunnah teachings.
Today, even though majority of the Muslims are Ahlus-Sunnah on Aqedah, only a few scholars remain dedicated to revive Ahlus-Sunnah. This is why it is crucial to learn and pass on the original teachings of Islam, as well as to recognize and avoid distortions.
